Description
- Visit MSCA sites in Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, and other So. CA counties, and assist them in using MOUSE Squad online curriculum and hands-on activities;
- Communicate with MSCA sites on a regular basis, via emails, listservs, phone, etc;
- Gather and organize hands-on activities developed by instructors/faculty advisors;
- Inform sites about educational technology resources as well as MOUSE Squad activities;
- Conduct mini-trainings for MOUSE Squad of CA (MSCA) instructors/faculty;
- Identify companies re their program participation, i.e. volunteers, internships, sponsorships.
Responsibilities
- Manages 10-12 Southern CA (northern counties) MOUSE Squad Student Tech sites;
- Provides program set-up support and facilitates on-going technical support;
- Conducts instructor/faculty advisor trainings and meetings as needed;
- Facilitates volunteer recruitment and on-going volunteer support;
- Places corporate volunteers at school sites; Identifies sites for high school youth interns;
- Facilitates communication between each school site and assigned volunteers;
- Communicates with volunteer coordinator re TB test and fingerprinting reports.
Experience/Skills Recommended
- Experience in education including working with youth and professionals;
- Experience working with youth, educators, and corporate personnel
- Excellent organizational and communication skills - in person, phone, email, etc.;
- Attention to detail; Resourceful and flexible; Strong computer skills;
- Able to handle multiple tasks at once and respond in timely manner;
- Able to take initiative and work without a lot of supervision;
- Good sense of direction and comfortable driving to school sites; updated CA Driver’s License (CDL), auto insurance, clean driving record, TB test, and fingerprinting, as required;
- Experience in training educators and conducting volunteer orientations for small groups.
MOUSE Squad enables upper elementary, middle and high school students to learn information technology (IT), customer service, communication and leadership skills while providing a service to their schools. It can be an after school program or an in-school elective.
MOUSE Squad of California is a program of Aspiranet, a non-profit organization that provides after-school, youth development, and community technology programs, and children and family services in California. MSCA is in partnership with MOUSE (Making Opportunities for Upgrading Schools and Education Inc., a New York City-based not-for-profit.
The core elements of the program include:
- Online curriculum with computer, software, troubleshooting, and customer service modules;
- Hands-on activities, quizzes, and performance-based assessments;
- Student-run help desk with paper and/or online ticket management systems;
- Volunteers to assist with curriculum, help desk, mentoring; internships for high school youth.
